Deer Lodge Reviews

What an amazing place to stay! It is much more than a lodge over garages as it feels more like an exclusive apartment. Deer Lodge is expertly designed, with lots of clever storage that may not be apparent from the photos. It's modern, stylish with a comfortable sofa and plenty of kitchen workspace. It's private and is some distance away from the owner's house. The hot tub is amazing and there is a smart outdoor seating area. The Lodge is set in beautiful countryside looking out towards Pendle Hill. The Ribble Valley in the Forest of Bowland seems to be one of the UK's best kept secrets as there are endless picture box villages, like the Cotswolds but without the crowds with lovely, thriving country pubs. We enjoyed visiting Barley, where there is plenty of parking with the amazing walk up Pendle Hill. There are many circular walks from here. Downham is very pretty with a fabulous icecream shop. The walking opportunities in the wider area are endless all within rolling hills, atmospheric moorland or along the picturesque Ribble and Hodder rivers. The whole area is spotlessly clean and well cared for. A trip to Lancaster Castle is very worthwhile as the guides are excellent. The Police Museum, set in A Wing is open on Thursdays and Fridays. The Park on Ride just off Junction 34 is an excellent service into Lancaster. Thank you Amanda and Craig for a perfect break. Karen and Kevin. June 2026

We thoroughly enjoyed our week at Deer Lodge. The owners certainly had made us very welcome. As it was Easter they had thoughtfully decorated the apartment with Easter decorations. They also left us some very welcome treats which were very much appreciated. It was warm and cosy and on sunny days we very much enjoyed the views from the terrace. We were lucky enough to see five deers most days! Also, the bird life was good to hear and see. Absolutely would recommend this lovely accommodation.
Absolutely lovely place to stay only downside was didnt say was on ... Absolutely lovely place to stay only downside was didnt say was on somebodys property but tbh it wasnt an issue at all lovely little welcome gift of Prosecco cupcakes and hot chocolate and marshmallow hot tub was lovely and no cut off point as most places we have stayed its 10pm could do with some lighting around the back on way to hot tub as didnt see the small step unfortunately we had to cut are stay short by a night as little one wasnt well but we had such a relaxing time with 2 lovely lie ins lovely good at Northcote restaurant and the black bull on the Saturday which is literally a 2 minute walk thanks again for a lovely stay and we hope to see you again soon x

Deer lodge was just perfect for two people, we had a wonderful new year break there and it was lovely, the place was warm and modern and Amanda and Craig were friendly hosts plenty of places to eat and some lovely walks, everything we needed was there, we would certainly recommend it for a get away break, and we definitely will be going back

1010 stay at the Deer Lodge. The weather was really bad when we stayed for the five days, but with it being in such a good location, there were loads of little villages and towns to explore nearby and loads of walks to do when the weather wasn't bad. The place itself was so cute and cozy, decorated lovely for the autumn season, perfect for a two person get away the double bed was a bit firm and lumpy, but we always bring our own duvet, so slept on top of the bed and used our duvet which helped. The hot tub was nice out the back, great to use after a day of hill walking! Would definitely go back again, especially in dryer months for more walks.

I absolutely loved my stay here at Deer Lodge. I stayed here a few weeks ago on my own and honestly had the best time. I arrived to a little surprise bottle of prosecco and cakes which was a lovely touch. The local pub is stunning and the staff where lovely! There is quite alot of restaurants etc around near by which was great. The only thing I was surprised about was the house next to the property, which doesnt appear on the photos so assumed it was quite isolated, however looks like they keep out the way as no one was ever there. The hot tub is in a little enclosed area and i loved using it of a evening. I would definitely go back, thanks for having me!
We had a lovely stay at the Deer Lodge! It has such a cozy vibe to the place and the hot tub was just what we needed. The stars at night were unreal during our stay, which made the hot tub even better! Very clean and had all the little bits you would need in there. The owners were very welcoming and have the loveliest dog who came out to us. Very peaceful area with a lovely little town not far away from there.
Beautiful property and scenery. A great little base to explore from or just relax and enjoy. The pub nearby is welcoming, with a great atmosphere and food. A warm welcome from the owners, with a thoughtful bottle of Prosecco and some cakes from a very local bakery that should definitely be visited
Chelsea
Beautiful place, lovely hot tub, everything you needed, we had a great stay. The only thing that let it down was the small road full of pot holes before the lovely drive with gates
Antonia

Absolutely stunning lodge just the perfect stay we had. Host lovely and welcoming.
A pleasant stay. The perfect place for our holiday and the owners were very friendly and welcoming. Would definitely recommend to stay.
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would happily return!
Absolutely beautiful lodge, arrived and was greeted by one of the owners and their dog blue who made us jump a few times as she is sneeky to say she's a large dog she loves meeting new people and loves a good stroke. The owners leave you alone to do what you want. The lodge is very nice, clean and has everything you need, the hot tub is always warm and has some seating with a table so you can have breakfast outside. The local pub is a 5min walk and serves very nice food and has a great atmosphere. The local shop spar is a 10 min drive.
Graham
Wonderful stay in a beautiful place so cosy and beautifully furnished. Perfect place for walking, relaxing and enjoying great food. Amanda and Craig are fabulous hosts so kind and helpful. We decided to go carless for this holiday but really appreciated the lift to the station with our luggage to head home. Thank you!
Lovely stay. Highly recommended.
Lovely lodge but could do with a spruce up . . area outside where hot tub is the fence could do with a paint, very tired and nothing like the pics. The hot tub too much chlorine Inside the fridge top shelf was grimy at the back and the freezer door was broken every time you opened it, it fell off The glasses in the cupboard were dirty had to re wash them all also the tea cups. Old crumbs inside the drawer. In the bedroom there was a half eaten Kit Kat in one of the bedside drawers. For the money we paid, we expected it to be spotless and in mint condition so slightly disappointed. Attention to detail vital and lacking Only two bath towels left, even though there was also the hot tub, and when asked for more, was only given one However the Prosecco and the cupcakes were a nice touch and the bed was comfy.
We absolutely loved our stay at Deer Lodge from start to finish. The lodge is compact and cosy and you have everything you need. The welcome gifts were much appreciated. The toiletries etc are of high quality. The hosts are really friendly but not intrusive. It is so peaceful and quiet but close enough to walk to the local pub for food and drink, which was very very good. There is so much to do in the area that one week was not enough, so we will have to return at some point The hot tub was great to relax in after our many walks. We realised why it is called Deer Lodge when we spotted deer in the next field on several occassions. If you are thinking about booking Deer Lodge just do it! You will not regret it.
Deer lodge was a lovely relaxing experience, the lodge had everything that you needed, the complimentary cupcakes and Prosecco were a lovely touch and I would revisit.
Andrew
Amanda and Craig were the friendliest of hosts. The cottage was carefully planned to provide a great layout and was very cosy the hot tub was a bonus. The location provided easy access to a wealth of walks be that woodlands, lakes or coastal. There was an abundance of the finest inns and restaurants, not least the Black Bill Inn, within 250 metres from the cottage. Perfection all around!
Lovely place to stay
Amazing property and amazing owners. Stayed over new years and it was the perfect place to start the new year. The owners where so helpful and even gave us a lift to the near by pub as it was raining!! Hot tub was an amazing size and everything was very clean.
Amanda and Craig were exceptional hosts, offering us valuable insights and information. They allowed us to enjoy our stay without any interference. The lodge was beautifully decorated for Christmas, and the underfloor heating was an added bonus that made our stay even more comfortable. The private hot tub was absolutely incredible, providing a truly relaxing experience. We were thoroughly impressed with the property and cannot wait to return. Additionally, we would like to express our gratitude for the cupcakes and bubbly, which were a delightful surprise.
